One-step sparring, or simply step-sparring, is drill that dates back to the early 1900’s. It was used as a way to practice various striking and kicking techniques on a stationary partner. This practice has spread to many traditional martial arts. Once learned on a stationary target, these techniques should be practiced and modified to be successful in the chaos of real-life defense scenarios. Additionally, this drill can be evolved in three-step and free-flow sparring.

In the WTSDA curriculum, there are 30 official techniques for both hand and kick techniques, 60 in total . Each set of 5 becomes more advanced to empower students to become more proficient in their kicking ability. Students will learn a new set of 5 as the progress through each belt color.
